EPL update

It is day 3 of the NBA pre-seasons and Miami Heat have returned. Dwyane Wade did not play and Lebron only scores 9 points. But Chris Bosh looks in mid-season form with 21 points, hitting 3 pointers. Chris Bosh had some lovely highlights with a double spin layup which impressed the home crowd. Box score below.
  • The Bulls look really stable with Derrick Rose's second game into the pre-season. He shows signs of explosiveness and getting everyone excited with his lay-ups that he does. The Bulls look legitimate contenders this year with the return of Rose.

Fighter Dies From Weight-Cutting

Ever since the introduction of weight classes fighters have been using the method of weight cutting to achieve an advantage over an size advantage over their opponents. Some fighters cut around 20 pounds off their natural walking weight dehydrating themselves hours before the weigh in to cut as much water weight as their body will allow. Although some methods of weight cutting are safer than others they all pose some type of risk in excess. Everyone knows the dangers but there is simply too much money involved to completely for fighters to eliminate it from combat sports completely. The majority of deaths that have occurred in boxing are all from the lighter weight classes mainly because the human body can only cut so much weight before it gives in and the lighter weight classes have smaller fighters to begin with. They are losing a much greater percentage of their weight as higher weight classes tend to cut less weight. This is the first time that there has been a death in Mixed Martial Arts due to weight cutting. 26 year old Brazilian fighter Leandro Souza died as he was trying to cut weight for his flyweight fight. Just two pounds off his target he collapsed and was rushed to the hospital before being pronounced dead. The problem was the his walk around weight was over 30 pounds from his weigh in weight.

Although many fans are against it, believing that fighters should just fight at their natural weight classes, close to what they walk around with there are no real clear solutions to the weight cut problem. I option that has been talked about a lot is that fighter must be a certain percentage from their weigh in weight some time before the weigh in so they cant dehydrate themselves to extreme levels. You could weigh them in a two weeks before the fight then one week before the fight and finally 24 hours before the fight to ensure that they are properly cutting weight at a healthy rate. Another proposal are same day weigh ins like they do with boxing which would discourage fighters from cutting too much weight, however the problem is that some fighters may choose to go the extreme route and try to make the limit even when they're still 30 pounds over. Right now it just seems like a problem that cant be regulated by officials and its up to the coaches and fighters to know how much is too much.

League of Legends Championships Final Result

So the League of Legends Championship Season 3 was played on the 5th of October, between SK Telecom T1 and Royal Club!

Although the 3 games showed high level of skilled plays the game was won by SK Telecom T1 in straight 3 games.
Once again the SK Telecom T1's AD carry Piglet and the superstar mid lane carry Faker performed at top form to carry the team to victory, below are the End of Game Stats of game 1.

As you can see from the end game stats SK Telecom T1 doubled in kills and had a 17k gold lead, as the game 1 was such a big win, SK Telecom carried the momentum and went on to finish the series 3:0. Although SK Telecom T1 seemed to be a strong contender it took the world by surprise when they finished the grand final in such a dominant fashion.

Roster changes for Virtus.Pro

The former roster of Virtus.Pro, consisting of players, NS, LightOfHeaven, God, Goblack and Resolut1on has changed recently. The team has said that the reason behind this change of roster is internal conflict which is not a rare sight in professional gaming. The players leaving Virtus.Pro are Goblack and Resolut1on.

Goblack is a drafter who many people have trouble dealing with due to his completely unpredictable hero picks during the drafting stage. Also, Resolut1on is a young player who had reached the level of professional gaming at an early age. It is safe to say these two great players will have other teams picking them up in the near future.

In exchange for the two, Virtus.Pro have added ARS-ART who was a former member of Virtus.Pro. With the addition of ARS-ART, the Virtus.Pro lineup has one empty spot, they are searching for their 5th player.

With the inclusion of ARS-ART, the new lineup has players: NS, LightOfHeaven, God and ARS-ART with one vacant spot. The addition of a great player like ARS-ART will hopefully have beneficial effects to the team which has been performing poorly for the past few tournaments.

NBA RETURNS

Hey guys,
Finally the NBA returns. Well technically it hasn't because it's only the pre-season, but highly anticipated teams such as Bulls with the return of Derrick Rose and Houston Rockets with new additions like Dwight Howard played in the pre-season opener of day 1.

The Bulls have Derrick Rose back. He showed us signs of the MVP Rose but looked rusty with 4 quick turnovers. He did not start and only played 20 minutes. He did score 13 points for a Bulls Victory of 82-76 against the Indiana Pacers. He was not afraid to go to the basket as he converted layups with his speed and power, even with big man Roy Hibbert guarding the rim.
As shown above he was not scared to drive to the basket asorbing contact and getting an And-1 layup. His knee looks in top form as well with a break-away dunk as shown below. This is a good sign for Bulls fans.
The end result bulls hung on with a narrow victory. Box score below.

  • Rockets returned with a pre-season opener against the newly named New Orleans Pelicans formerly known as New Orleans Hornets. Anthony Morrow scores 26 points to help the Pelicans to a narrow 116-115 victory in Dwight Howard's exhibition debut for the Rockets. Dwight adds 19 points and 9 rebounds for his first Rocket game since joining the rockets for a $88 million dollar/4 year deal. Howard shot 6-11 from the field and his free throw was decent 7-11. He got ejected for a second technical later in the 3rd quarter. Though there was some good chemistry going on with fellow team mates James Harden who looked in mid season form scoring 21 points and point guard Jeremy Lin. This gives Rockets fans a hope for this season with high expectations.

Wladimir Klitschko outpoints Alexander Povetkin, Miguel Cotto KO's Delvin Rodriguez

Wladimir Klitschko defeated  Alexander Povetkin for the Heavyweight title in Moscow by unanimous decision. It was the result that most people were expecting. Klitschko used his usual trademark jabs but to outpoint Povetkin. He also used unquestionably legal clinch tactics that made the fight boring to a lot of viewers. Klitschko was the much bigger fighter and he aimed to exploit this advantage by keeping Povetkin away with his jab but whenever Povetkin came within range Klitschko would clinch up waiting for a seperation. With this tactic Klitschko managed to score an early knockdown. Klitschko also used the clinch to seemingly wrestle Povetkin causing Povetkin to drop or fall. The referee was extremely lenient in giving  Klitschko warnings, finally started deducting points in the eleventh round. Although many Povetkin fans were upset by this, by the way the fight was going it didn't seem like Povetkin would have won. Klitschko was just too big to allow for Povetkin to get inside.
Miguel Cotto vs Delvin Rodriguez was another fight held on the same day in the super welterweight division. Cotto was coming off two consecutive losses from Floyd Mayweather and Austin Trout, many thought that he should retire if he lost this fight. Cotto outworked Rodriguez in the first round with bodyshots and conitnued this into the second round where he managed to rock Rodriguez before the bell. Cotto came out strong in the third and managed to KO Rodriguez eighteen seconds into the third round.

EPL TEAM UPDATE IN THE UCL

hey guys,
What a week it has been for the EPL teams that are competing in the UCL. There has been some expected victories as well as shock results. Here is a round up of the 4 teams Manchester United, Chelsea FC, Manchester City FC and Arsenal FC which has been by far my favourite team coming into this season with major signings paying off and their overall form.

  • Manchester United is continuing to disappoint fans. Coming over a shock home loss 2-1 defeat to West Brom. There has been a lot of criticism of the play style and manager David Moyes. Manchester United looks sluggish at defence and the only productive player is of course Wayne Rooney as his form is excellent. It was a slow first half with a couple of chances to both sides but Anderson should have scored for Manchester United with a header hitting the cross bar. Amalfitano of West Brom opened the scoring with a lovely poised chip over the keeper De gea
But 3 minutes later Wayne Rooney equalized with a wonderful free kick. Though West Brom keeper should have done better.
Wayne Rooney Free Kick
Berahino then spoiled the chances of a Manchester United Victory with a power shot to the bottom right hand goal. Nothing the keeper can do about.
Manchester United did play better today with a draw at a Shakhtar. Though a victory was desperate, a 1-1 draw away to Shakhtar is not bad at all. Welbeck opened the scoring through 18 minutes with a nice cross from Fellaini. Manchester United sat back and conceded a late goal to the Brazilian Taison at 76 minutes. One thing to note is that Ryan Giggs made his 145th UCL appearance the most out of any players.

  • Following a excellent week from Manchester City, this week is quite the opposite with both losses in both domestic and UCL competitions. A loss to Aston Villa 2-3 and also a home loss to Bayern Munich 1-3. Bayern Munich is playing out of their minds as Ribery scored an early goal with a powerful shot that beaten Joe Hart. Then a counter from Bayern a lovely chip shot for Mueller to easily tuck it past Joe Hart 1 on 1. From then on things started turning ugly as Arjen Robben bullied the City defence with a solo goal. But Negredo did score a consolation goal with wonderful touch and curls it past the Bayern keeper Neuer.

  • Chelsea has been consistent with results so far. But expectations are higher as Jose Mourinho is the new manager. Their EPL draw to Tottenham was a fair result as they played away. The fierce rivalry between the two clubs are a must watch game. Spurs had a first half lead through Sigurdsson but in a frenzy second half John Terry headed in an equalizer before having Chelsea striker Torres being sent off with a second yellow card. Chelsea did have an emphatic result beating Steaua Bucuresti 4-0 away in the UCL. This is an excellent recovery to their shock away loss in their first game to FC Basel.
  • As I said before, Arsenal has far been my favourite so far. The midfield looks slick and energised through the signing of Mesut Ozil. What a signing he has been for Arsene Wenger as he has contributed to most of the goals. Their recent win against Swansea 2-1 away was impressive as it is always hard to play at the Liberty Stadium.
But an impressive home win against a good Napoli side was the highlight of the week. The final score was 2-0. Ozil scored first at the 8 minute mark with a wonderful cut back from Aaron Ramsey as he continues to be on form. Another assist to Ozil in the 15th minute a nice pass to Giroud made it 2-0 for Arsenal and an improbable comeback win for Napoli.

Jones Scraped By Gustafsson, Barao KO's Wineland

There were two title fights held at UFC 165. Jon Jones looked to defend his Light Heavyweight title against Alexander Gustafsson and Renan Barao had to defend his Bantamweight title against Eddie Wineland.

Firstly in the co-main event interim UFC Bantamweight champion Renan Barao fought Eddie Wineland. After a close first round that could of went either way Barao lands an impressive spinning back kick to the face of Wineland in round two. Although Wineland managed to block it slightly with his hand it was powerful enough to knock Wineland down and daze him enough for Barao to achieve a stoppage with follow up punches on the ground, earning him the knockout of the night bonus.

The question is now, when will Dominick Cruz be recovered so that he can unify the Bantamweight title and whether Cruz should be stripped of the title since he hasn't fought in over two years now due to the injury.

In the main event the Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones had the toughest fight of his career against the heavy underdog Alexander Gustafsson. Jones has been so dominant against every one of his opponents in the past that on one thought Gustafsson had much of a chance. However this was the first time that Jones fought someone taller than him with a comparable reach. This was evident in the first round where Gustafsson was able to catch Jones off balance and take him down which no one has ever done before.

Gustafsson had the slicker boxing in this fight which Jones seemed to have trouble with since Jones had always been able to use his mutant like 84 inch reach to keep the smaller guys off him.

It was in the third round onward that Jones started coming back with more desperation perhaps knowing that he may have been losing in the eyes of the judges. He was able to land some of his signiture elbows and kicks from the 3rd round onward. Also worth noting is that this was Gustafsson's first five round fight, it was evident that by the fifth round Gustafsson was exhausted.

Jones ended up winning the decision however it was a very controversial one in the eyes of the fans, many of which saw Gustafsson winning the fight. Both fighters earned fight of the night bonus.

Finalists for Starladder VII

After the big slump of exciting games in the professional Dota 2 scene, we were finally able to see the big teams go at it again in through the Starladder VII tournament. As of the 1st of October, the finalists for the big event have been decided. The two TI3 (The International 3) grand finalists, Na'Vi and Alliance have made it up to the top 4, much to the pleasure of their fans as well as Team Empire and FlipQ which struck as a surprise because no one thought these two teams would make it up to the top.

  • Team Alliance had 13 points coming into the top 4 while the other 3 teams had 11 points each.
The games in the Starladder tournament were on par with the games in the TI3 and have stirred up the people who watch professional Dota 2. Rattlesnake.int (formerly known as Kaipi) were very close to making it to the top 4 had they won a couple more games the day before. If they had won these games, they would've made Na'Vi, Team Empire and FlipQ battle it out for a spot in the top 4. However, they narrowly lost, resulting in the current finalists lineup.

Power Rangers

Team Empire

Teams worth mentioning because of the performance they gave in Starladder VII are Power Rangers and Team Empire. Power Rangers shocked everyone by defeating the two TI3 grand finalists, Na'Vi and Alliance. Team Empire's rise to the top 4 was also unbelievable since they had been such a quiet team coming into Starladder VII.

The Finals will begin on the 10th of October and are scheduled to finish by the 13th of October.

Prize Pool:
  1. $12,000
  2. $6,000
  3. $3,000
  4. $1,500
