Wladimir Klitschko defeated Alexander Povetkin for the Heavyweight title in Moscow by unanimous decision. It was the result that most people were expecting. Klitschko used his usual trademark jabs but to outpoint Povetkin. He also used unquestionably legal clinch tactics that made the fight boring to a lot of viewers. Klitschko was the much bigger fighter and he aimed to exploit this advantage by keeping Povetkin away with his jab but whenever Povetkin came within range Klitschko would clinch up waiting for a seperation. With this tactic Klitschko managed to score an early knockdown. Klitschko also used the clinch to seemingly wrestle Povetkin causing Povetkin to drop or fall. The referee was extremely lenient in giving Klitschko warnings, finally started deducting points in the eleventh round. Although many Povetkin fans were upset by this, by the way the fight was going it didn't seem like Povetkin would have won. Klitschko was just too big to allow for Povetkin to get inside.
Miguel Cotto vs Delvin Rodriguez was another fight held on the same day in the super welterweight division. Cotto was coming off two consecutive losses from Floyd Mayweather and Austin Trout, many thought that he should retire if he lost this fight. Cotto outworked Rodriguez in the first round with bodyshots and conitnued this into the second round where he managed to rock Rodriguez before the bell. Cotto came out strong in the third and managed to KO Rodriguez eighteen seconds into the third round.
